Modern automotive cryogenic fuel systems

Vast experience presently exists with LNG-fired road vehicle operation globally. However, numerous issues remain to be resolved. This paper summarises the key modern automotive cryogenic fuel systems most widely employed in Russia presently and addresses drivers under consistent engine operation along with potential CO2 impacts. A single-train fuelling system operating under elevated pressure is believed most prospective today, this is believed to be especially topical for Russia as LNG is set to be mainly sourced from LP gas grids or from gas distribution stations running under 0.5 MPa pressure. In addition, higher process pressure tends to keep CO2 still dissolved which typically prevents from solids deposition and flow channel plugging as well as ensures engine upstream regasification unit heat and hydraulic stability.
