New, ammine-tolerant heterogeneous catalyst for LPG demercaptanisation

The authors are coming with a new, ammine-tolerant heterogeneous catalyst, KCM-X, designed for alkali recovery under LPG demercaptanisation process. This area is believed increasingly topical given a recent trend in Russia: progressively wider involvement of associated and petroleum liquefied gases from refineries into automotive gas-fired fuel production technology. These gases are then routed to amine treatment, for hydrogen sulphide removal, followed by alkali oxidation-based catalytic treatment for demercaptanisation. This paper shows that heterogeneous catalysts, KC and KCM series, where active components are firmly fixed in polymer carrier resin, appear the best choice for regeneration of mercaptan-rich alkaline solution, for cutting LPG sulphur content down to 10 ppm.
