Remote measurement methodology support to oil and gas prospecting

The paper briefly describes the current status of geological exploration efforts and proposes several advanced remote Earth sensing tools to find new oil and gas exploration drilling targets. It summarises current exploration technologies based on such remote sensing tools now available from Gazprom VNIIGAZ. In particular, it highlights new potential opportunities with these innovative remote sensing methods including satellite-based SAR interferometry, finding natural hydrocarbon slick zones in water pools, building abnormal gravity fields from satellite altimetry data in offshore areas, and airborne gravimetric survey. Finally, the authors provide example of integrated gravity-magnetic, seismic, and satellite data interpretation tools and algorithms.
