Today, modern geographically-distributed operating framework including upstream oil and gas producers as well as numerous transportation and logistics players are reported to increasingly rely on space technology. Existing ground-based monitoring practices, with regard to complex management and technology systems, indicate continuously growing complexity, with increasing control parameters regarding key operating metrics. Presently, satellite-aided processes are reported to progressively proliferate into nearly all operations and social activity areas including navigation, geodetic, environmental, or weather forecasting tools – they appear moving to the centre stage of process control and automation covering wide technology areas. This report addresses the topical implementation issues and prospects for aerospace technologies such as upstream oil and gas operations.
